About the Course
Pre-Algebra

Pre-Algebra is a preparatory class for algebra 1. We will use the College of the Redwoods Prealgebra 2012-13, second edition curriculum. This can be ordered through Memoria Press.  The Solutions Manual is optional; however, it does offer step-by-step answers which are not in the text. We will do many examples together in class. We use a Socratic approach to teaching; therefore, class participation is a must. Parents are expected to oversee that students are developing good study habits in completing assignments, checking homework, preparing questions for class, studying for tests, etc. Tests will be given at home and should be taken in an atmoshere that encourages focused attention and preserves the integrity of the test. Students will be expected to keep up with the weekly flow of assignments, to particpate respectfully in class, and at times, to show procedures on the board.

Prerequisites: Students are expected to already have a good foundation in the math operations  of adding , subtracting, multiplying and dividing using fractions, decimals, and percents. Saxon Math 76 (or something similar) is great preparatory course. A parent meeting with Mrs. Stumler is required before a student may officailly enroll into the class.
