About the Course
Latina Christiana 2021-2022

This is a 30 week class.

Latina Christiana is a wonderful beginning Latin class for younger students. Latina Christiana is the introduction course to First Form Latin for 5th grade and under.

Latina Christiana employs the “grammar‐first” approach to language acquisition, and this means that students will need to commit to extensive memorization.

It is highly recommended that your student is able to read and write fluently before taking this course.

The course will include a weekly review for assistance in memorization. We will also achieve memorization of vocabulary and grammatical forms through the different senses (e.g., singing/speaking, listening, writing, seeing, etc.).  Along with the recitation of grammar forms, we will begin every class with a prayer. This is a good way to help the child memorize new prayers, especially the versions of the prayers in Latin.

Textbooks required: Latina Christiana Student Book

Optional, but highly recommended: Pronunciation CD, Flashcards

These resources can be found at https://www.memoriapress.com/curriculum/latin/latina-christiana-set/

Learning Latin helps students learn to think critically and to express their thoughts well. Latin helps students grow in their understanding of the way language works (including English vocabulary and grammar).  The students' knowledge of the material will be assessed through weekly written quizzes and periodic written tests. We will have fun learning in the classroom via songs, games, board work and more.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have. I look forward to meeting your students this year! Blessings, Sarah Kochert
