About the Course
Government/Civics/English IV

History Goals  Students will be using The Classical Historian American Government curriculum, which teaches students to think independently, make decisions, read, write, speak effectively, AND  learn history rather than just memorizing useless facts.  To earn a Civics credit in the Spring, students will complete hands-on activitie, analytical essays, and term paper/project that will put into practice what was learned in Governement and provide experience with their civic responsibilities as American citizens.

The Classical Historian uses a Five Step Method:

1. Students learn the Tools of the Historian.
2. Students are challenged with Open-Ended Questions.
3. Students research in a Variety of Secondary and Primary Sources.
4. Students engage in a Socratic Discussion.
5. Students write an Analytical Essay.

Literature/ Composition Goals:  By the end of the course, students will:

-Possess a broad knowledge and development of British literature.

-Have specific understanding of selected representative texts by major authors of the periods studied.

-Have a general understanding of the historical and cultural contexts of the works.

-Be able to analyze literary texts through a Christian worldview and present thoughtfully developed ideas in writing.

-Demonstrate competence in essay organization, style, and mechanics through grammar review/practice, editing practice, essays, and a term paper.

For first semester composition, students are being asked to take Debate on Thursdays with Mrs. Griffin. This class will coincide with our Government topics and count as our composition.

This is a 2-hour class and the tuition is $375.
