About the Course
Debate

Debate? Who needs to learn debate?  Everyone!

Debate teaches students to think critically about ideas, such an important skill in today’s culture. It equips students to identify underlying worldviews and logical fallacies. It helps students formulate their ideas and communicate them in a winsome way. We need a generation grounded in truth and able to defend that truth through strong reasoning and communication. We need debaters.

This class will teach you how to think about ideas, communicate your ideas effectively, structure thought provoking arguments, and so much more.

Debate will cover will cover debate foundations, beginning logic, basic argumentation, cross-examination, and flowing. We will practice team policy debate and Lincoln-Douglas debate.

We will use the concepts from Mrs. Erikson’s American Government class as the foundation for our in-class debates. You do not have to be in her class, but if you are you will get to debate some of what you are learning!

There’s something for everyone to learn.! Debate may sound intimidating or boring, but I think you’ll be surprised at how much fun and just how useful it can be.

Debbie Griffin

By the way, our family has been involved in NCFCA speech and debate since 2010. I help coach Lincoln-Douglas debate at our local club, Truth Advocates.

About Debbie
Debbie

Hi! I'm Debbie Griffin and I love all things music! I graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in K-12 Music Education with a focus on general music, choral music, and piano pedagogy. I also did post-graduate studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where I met my husband Rick, who is a pastor. I've taught music in various capacities over the years, including piano, voice, general music and choirs in public and private schools, and I've directed both school and church productions. I really enjoy accompanying and assisting with worship. I'm a 25-year veteran homeschool mom of five children, all of whom have graduated, so I cheer on all of you homeschool moms!
