About the Course
Group piano is a fun, interactive way to begin piano lessons. Students learn basic piano skills, all in the context of a group of 2-4 students. We will learn basic piano songs, piano technique, note names, and rhythms, using traditional methods as well as games and activities. Group piano is also a way to begin piano lessons without as much of a cost burden.
If you have a sibling or a friend or 2 that you would like to take piano with, let me know! I will also keep a running list of students interested in group piano, to help match students. I would like to group students as closely as possible, meaning similar academic placement and similar musical exposure. For instance, in general it would be difficult if one student could read and one could not or if one student was in 1st grade and one in 5th.
All group piano students will need a keyboard or piano at home. (Keyboards need to have full size keys. Weighted keys are best.) Students will need to buy the Faber Piano Adventures books that correspond with the piano lesson level. Just like private lessons, students will need to have 20-30 minutes per day set aside to practice at home.
Level 1 Beginners- Approximate ages 5-7. This class will use Faber My First Piano Adventure Levels A & B. Level A and Level B cost $10.
Level II Beginners- Approximate ages 6-7. This class will be for students who have completed My First Piano Adventures Levels A & B. This class will continue with My First Piano Adventures Level C. Level C costs $10.
Level III Beginners- Approximate ages 8-11. This class will start with the Faber Primer Book and move into Faber Book 1. Primer Level books cost about $15 and Level 1 books cost about $22.
Level 1 Accelerated Beginners- Approximate ages 11 and up. This class will use Faber Accelerated Piano Adventures Book 1. This class moves more quickly and is suited for older students. Cost for the Accelerated Series is about $26 for a lesson book, performance book, and a theory book.
Most available lesson times at Cornerstone will be on Thursdays, with
Group piano lessons will follow the upper school schedule, a 36-week schedule. If I need to miss a lesson, I will not charge for that week. Because this is a group class, student missed lessons will not be reimbursed.
