About the Course
Science/History/Geography 5-6

The 5th and 6th grade science/history/geography class is a 90 minute class.

For Science,  we will be using the Answers In Genesis God's Design for Science curriculum.

For the 2021-2022  school year,  we will cover these books:

Our Weather & Water
Property of Atoms & Molecules
Heat & Energy
The World of Plants

These books are OPTIONAL to purchase. If you have a young student who will be in elementary science for 3-4 years, you may consider purchasing the entire 12-book set from God's Design Science,  available here:

Our class covers 4 books a year,  so in 3 years we will have covered all 12 books.

If you prefer to just purchase this year's books,  they are available individually at Rainbow Resource:

The science portion of the class lasts one hour. The focus of this class will be hands-on science activities, demonstrations, interactive lecture and discussion, and may also include memory work/songs, games and worksheets.  We will cover key concepts from a lesson.  We will review as time permits, which may include a worksheets, quiz game or verbal questions.

The history/geography portion of the class lasts 30 minutes.  This history class will utilize the Classical Conversations History Cards and the CC History Timeline song.  We will focus on the second half of the history timeline (Lincoln's War Between the States to 2000-the Present).  This will include memory work/songs, geography games/maps and lecture/discussion.

If you wish to purchase the CC History cards (OPTIONAL), we will be covering
These cards are part of a 4-time period set and are available to purchase here:

The cost for each class will be $140 for the year,  plus a $10 lab fee, payable to the teacher,  Mrs. Jacie Brengman, on the first day of class.  This class will be enjoyable, educational and allow the students an opportunity to use their hands and minds.

It is optional to purchase the science books and History Cards. The History Timeline song can be purchased and downloaded but can also be found online for free. I will provide that to parents on the first day of school.  I encourage the students to listen to it frequently to help with memorization.  We will sing it each time in class.
Please bring a pencil, folder with pockets and crayons or colored pencils.

About Jacie

I am excited to be teaching your child elementary Science/History/Geography for grades 3-4 and 5-6! This year we will be learning about and engaging in fascinating topics while giving glory to God our Creator.
I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Occupational Therapy from Indiana University in 2001. I have worked as an occupational therapist in different settings with both children and adults for 15 years. My husband and I began home educating our three children nine years ago. In the past I have taught in various environments such as preschool therapy groups, preschool/elementary-age Sunday School, marriage prep classes & Vacation Bible School at our church. Currently I teach Science/History/Geography at Cornerstone Classical School for grades 3rd/4th and grades 5th/6th. I am a sponsor for one of our children's homeschool Beta Club and in the past have been an assistant leader in our daughter's American Heritage Girls troop. I also enjoy singing, hiking and playing the flute.
I delight in learning new things along with my children, one of the great perks of homeschooling. Seeing the magic of learning happening though the eyes of students is a great joy for me. I am looking forward to teaching this class again for the 2021-2022 school year!
