About the Course
This class is an introduction to grammar and writing for young students. At the beginning of each class, students give a short presentation to their classmates. It may be a story they have summarized from Writing Through History, a poem or Bible passage, or sharing about a recent trip. Next we sing some grammar songs. Then we learn about the parts of speech through games, working at the whiteboard, worksheets and books. Students will also learn some basic rules of punctuation, and complete some short writing assignments in class.
Books and supplies needed for class:
Writing Through Early Modern - level 1 (this is optional - select manuscript or cursive depending on your child\'s ability and see link below)
Shurley English Level 1 (this is optional - worksheets will be provided in class)
*Parents are required to be in class with their student.
I am incredibly excited to teach First and Second Grade Grammar and Writing this year! Students will enjoy the livelihood of this class, and the information they will learn will provide a solid foundation for future Grammar, Writing, and History courses.
I obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies from IU Southeast in 2002. I was an Admissions Counselor/Incoming Student Academic Advisor at IU Southeast for eight years, and then a Resource Specialist for the Institute for Learning and Teaching Excellence, a faculty development office, at IU Southeast for another two years, before deciding to stay at home to homeschool. I live in Lanesville with my husband and two daughters, and I absolutely love the joy and academic freedom that homeschooling has brought to our family.
