About the Course
Grammar / Writing grades 1 & 2

This class is an introduction to grammar and writing for young students.  At the beginning of each class, students give a short presentation to their classmates.  It may be reciting a poem, scripture verse, or summarizing a story from Writing Through History.  Next, we will practice grammar recitions and sing some grammar songs.  Then we learn the parts of speech through games, working at the whiteboard, and writing in workbooks.  Students will learn some basic rules of writing in complete sentences, and practice proper grammar usage.  Assistance will be provided for students who are not yet fluent readers, or may need support with handwriting.

About JoAnna
JoAnna

I am incredibly excited to teach First and Second Grade Grammar/Writing, and History/Science this year! Students will enjoy the livelihood of these courses, and the information learned will provide solid foundations in future coursework. We will learn from practicing skills through a combination of games and workbooks, recitations and songs, and hands on activities/projects.
I obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies from IU Southeast in 2002. I was an Admissions Counselor/Incoming Student Academic Advisor at IU Southeast for eight years, and then a Resource Specialist for the Institute for Learning and Teaching Excellence for another two years, before deciding to stay at home to homeschool. I live in Lanesville with my husband and two daughters, and I absolutely love the joy and academic freedom that homeschooling has brought to our family.
