About the Course
Instrumental Music Private Lessons

Private instrumental lessons (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone and trumpet) will be $120 per semester following the elementary calendar.  Students will learn the basics of their instrument starting with assembly of the instrument, hand position, posture, breath control and tone production.  The Essential Elements band method book will be used (provided by the instructor) along with supplementary materials.  Note reading and basic music theory will be taught along with musical terminology and performance basics.  Each student will need to have their own instrument - either through purchase or through rental programs at local music stores. (Please contact instructor if help is needed in finding an instrument.) It is suggested that each student have a folding music stand for practice at home.  These can be purchased through local music stores or online.

There will be 12 lessons/semester following the elementary calendar (August 23-Nov. 17 for 1st semester and Jan. 12-April 6 for 2nd semester).  Each lesson will be 30 minutes and time slots are available on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Please contact the teacher via e-mail at jrjones734@gmail.com to reserve a time slot.

About Joy
Joy

Hello! My name is Joy Jones and I will be starting my 4th year of teaching instrumental music at Cornerstone Classical! I have 36 years of experience teaching band and instrumental music classes to students of all grade levels! I am a graduate of Cedarville University with a degree in music K-12. I have also completed many post-graduate level classes in instrumental pedagogy, music theory, music technology and jazz studies. I have a love for music along with a passion to help students develop their God given gifts and talents! I am especially proficient in helping young beginners turn a strange looking instrument into their new best friend! I am married and have a 24 year old son. I love being involved in church activities and I also enjoy reading, performing in musical ensembles and spending time with my family. I am excited to see how God will use me to build into the lives of the students and families at Cornerstone Classical!
