About the Course

Prerequisite: First Form Latin or equivalent
This class is recommended for Latin students who have completed First Form Latin. The class will emphasize Latin grammar, focusing on the verbal system as well as Latin adjectives. The student will increase his/her vocabulary with another 180 words. The course will include a weekly review for assistance in memorization. We will also achieve memorization of vocabulary and grammatical forms through the different senses (e.g., singing/speaking, listening, writing, seeing, etc.). The speed by which we work through the lessons will be determined by the ability of the students.
Textbooks required: Memoria Press Second Form Latin Student Text, Second Form Student Workbook, Second Form Quizzes and Tests
Optional, but highly recommended: Pronunciation CD, flashcards
Learning Latin helps students learn to think critically and to express their thoughts well. Latin helps students grow in their understanding of the way language works (including English vocabulary and grammar). I will lecture and encourage student participation through recitation, board work, comments, and questions. I will give weekly assignments and will expect the assignments to be handed in on time. Further, over the course of the year, the students’ knowledge of the material will be tested through regularly written quizzes and a few written tests. We will have fun while learning by playing review games periodically.
