About the Course
3/4 Grammar & Writing 10:30am

This course will introduce students to correct and expressive writing through modeling and practice.  By reading classic literature, we will formulate and edit sentences together from book discussions, and summarize passages.

Each class will begin by giving students the opportunity to deliver a presentation from a selection of options, such as reciting poetry, scripture, or reading assigned summaries.  Then, we will practice grammar rules through review, recitation, and practice.  Lastly, we will discuss weekly reading passages, creating outlines from guided questions, and drafting summaries.  Students will be challenged throughout the course to compose letters to family members/penpals, write a book report, and create their own short stories.

About JoAnna
JoAnna

I am excited to teach 3rd & 4th grade Grammar and Writing! I think students will enjoy the layout of this course, and the information learned will provide solid foundations for future coursework.

I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from IU Southeast in 2002. Upon graduation, I took a position with IU Southeast as an Admissions Counselor/Coordinator of HS Recruitment for eight years, and then transferred to Academic Affairs, working as a Resource Specialist for another three years. When my oldest daughter began to approach Kindergarten, my husband and I decided I should step out of the full-time work force so we could homeschool. We love the journey of homeschooling, and deeply appreciate its blessings.
