About the Course
Although this course is English III, it is for all 10th-12th graders who have completed the prerequisite of English I or have passed an equivalent test. Contact Mrs. Erickson for more information.
This course counts as two separate classes in one with credits for both classes. Students will be using The Classical Historian US History curriculum, which teaches students to think independently, make decisions, read, write, speak effectively, AND learn history rather than just memorizing useless facts. The Classical Historian uses a Five Step Method:
1. Students learn the Tools of the Historian.
2. Students are challenged with Open-Ended Questions.
3. Students research in a Variety of Secondary and Primary Sources.
4. Students engage in a Socratic Discussion.
5. Students write Analytical Essays.
Students will have a biweekly review in their grammar studies using US Literature authors and will analyze a variety of US Literature texts through a Biblical worldview. They will also complete weekly analytical essays and an end-of-the-year history research paper.
Cannot enroll children into a inactive course.
My name is Mrs. Erickson and I teach English, History, Creative Writing, and SAT/AP test prep. I was born and raised in Upstate NY and graduated from Houghton College with a BS in Christian Education. I also have a teaching certificate from the Evangelical Teacher Training Association in Christian Education. I have worked with all ages, from young children to adults, teaching Christian Education classes and tutoring students in Reading/English for 25+ years. I homeschooled my two boys in the Classical tradition throughout their schooling years and have taught in the classroom for about 12+ years. I have been married to my husband Mark for 28 years, and I am a grandmother to three grandchildren. I love to crochet, cross stitch, read, and spend time at home.
